The fourth grade returns.

The Society was pleased to host students from the Kearsarge Regional Elementary School at New London for the annual Fourth Grade Open House on June 12.

The weather was perfect, the volunteers were well prepared, and the students were enthusiastic as they cycled through all of the activities planned for their visit. These included: school lessons, bartering, colonial games, hearthside cooking, spinning and weaving, barn construction (on 1/8 scale), sewing, singing, and touring portions of the Society's collection—the Transportation Building, the Violin Shop, and the Eagle Hose Company. And lunch, of course.

At the end of the day, the 75 or so students walked back down Main Street to their classrooms with a new appreciation for New London's past—and perhaps surprised at what it offers today.

We owe our thanks to co-chairs Sarah O'Connor and Allison Kozikowski, and to all of the great volunteers, chaperones, and pie-bakers who made the event so memorable.
