A few weeks ago we launched our "Wait No More" membership appeal. It has been almost ten years since we last canvassed the area for new members. The Finlay Foundation Challenge provided the extra incentive we needed for such an ambitious undertaking. Almost 1,500 non-member owners of New London property were invited to join the society; many have moved into the area within the last decade. If enough people respond, we could receive a $25,000 challenge grant from the Finlay Foundation.
Today we are pleased that fifty households have already accepted the invitation, and we hope to hear from many more. The society is a unique resource for residents and visitors to New London—few other historic sites in the New Hampshire hold such an extensive collection, and we suspect that none of those operate solely with volunteers. Member dues provide the vital financial resources for purchasing the basic necessities and services that we cannot supply for ourselves.
